Some sources assert he was in the Lower Craven County Regiment after the Fall of Charleston under Col. Hugh Giles. However, most other sources assert that he led Col. Archibald McDonald's Kingstree Regiment while McDonald was on parole after the Fall of Charleston. When McDonald was exchanged in early 1781, he rejoined Col. Richard Richardson, Jr., who was also exchanged at the same time as McDonald, and who took over the Berkeley County Regiment. Lt. Col. Hugh Horry was wounded at the battle of Eutaw Springs.
