First in VA unit. 1779 moved to Edgefield District joined militia. Commissioned Captain 3/3/1779. Promoted to Major in 1780 and Lt. Colonel in 1781. Ended up as a full Colonel around mid-September of 1781 over a new regiment of Light Dragoons.
